Life Music Coaching
Life Music Coaching™ (LMC) is a specialty subset of life coaching first put into practice by the American Life Music Council (ALMC) in 2019 to help individuals suffering with Associated Music Anxiety Disorder (AMAD), a subset of stuck song syndrome, improve their personal performance, quality of life and valued relationships.
On average, up to 98% of the Western population has experienced stuck song syndrome: recurring songs that involuntarily pop up and stick in your mind either without any known cause, or when triggered by an associated emotion, memory or event.
Life Music Coaching™ (LMC) begins with the idea that a song can become connected to a traumatic event, memory or emotion and can cause severe anxiety or agitation when the song involuntarily pops up and plays in an individuals mind, over the radio, or over a retail store intercom system.
Likewise, the more one tries to suppress these songs, the more they continue to persist. Studies suggest that individuals exposed to recurring stress and anxiety are at greater risk of developing chronic illness leading to a shorter life span than those who manage stress and anxiety on a regular basis.
This is where a Life Music Coaching can help. Associated Music Anxiety Disorder (AMAD) is a cognitive condition that can be alleviated through managed self-care and life music coaching.
Associated Music Anxiety Disorder (AMAD)?
Associated Music Anxiety Disorder (AMAD) is a term that was first used by American Life Music Council in 2021 to discuss associated music anxiety as a subset of stuck song syndrome. AMAD is common in the general population, but can be more pronounced and debilitating in individuals struggling with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), bipolar disorder, and other mood disorders.
How do I know if I have AMAD?
We always recommend talking to your doctor to address any health or wellness conditions you think you may have. If applicable, your doctor may suggest talking to a life music coach to help guide a holistic self-help plan.
A life music plan aims to improve successful coping, rather than eradicating agitating songs. Two successful strategies can be distinguished: engagement and distraction, which a life music coach can help you orchestrate.
In contrast, studies show that trying to block recurring songs appears less successful than taking a more passive approach, as the agitating song can help you get to the root of the problem should your doctor diagnose other issues such as obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) suggesting cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)?
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is evidence-based therapy provided by licensed mental health professionals, and can be effective for treating OCD. In practice, individuals learn to replace dysfunctional thoughts like ‘These uncontrollable songs indicate I’m going crazy!’ with new, more accepting thoughts.
How does life music coaching work in the health care system?
Life Music Coaching™ (LMC) is a self-directed regimen geared to improve quality of life and personal performance by helping individuals suffering with Associated Music Anxiety Disorder (AMAD) gain manageable control over their thoughts, emotions and actions in a self-care environment, and should not be confused with music therapy services conducted by a licensed music therapist.
What is music therapy?
Music Therapy is the clinical & evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program defined by the American Music Therapy Association.
How does life music coaching differ from music therapy?
How is life music coaching cost affective?
Life Music Coaching™ (LMC) serves as a platform to initiate discussions about recurring songs that involuntarily pop up in your mind which can lead to earlier detection, diagnosis and treatment of underlying causes that may otherwise go undetected with greater complications mounting.
Is life music coaching covered by insurance?
In some cases, life music coaching may be covered by your insurance or health maintenance account and may differ from coach to coach. Beyond your free 15 minute consultation, you should confirm payment arrangement detail with your coach prior to scheduling life music coaching sessions.
What is song association?
Song association can occur when you are in an emotionally vulnerable state of mind and a song gets linked to the emotion, memory or event occurring at that time. Post song association, simply hearing or remembering the song again can cause an individual to experience the same emotions that were present at the time the song become associated.
What else can a a life music coach do?
Apart from helping people suffering from associated music anxiety disorder (AMAD), a life music coach can be a great resource to help you build and maintain greater:
