Secondary trauma can be incurred when a therapy dog is exposed to an owner or individual who has been traumatized themselves. Secondary trauma can be similar to symptoms of PTSD and has been researched in first responders, nurses and physicians, mental health care workers, children of traumatized parents, service dogs and therapy animals.
